Oracle would have people believe that JBoss professionals possess a greater level of skill than WebLogic professionals. So would I. That they would possess in-depth knowledge of the application server directory structure and configuration files. I would hope so.

I believe the most talented Java professionals in the world work with open source software.

Oracle would have people believe that because of their greater level of skill, JBoss professionals cost more than WebLogic professionals. Do they?

Let’s take a look at salary trends for administrators, developers, and consultants for JBoss, WebLogic, and WebSphere.

Administrator

$095,000 – JBoss
$097,000 – WebLogic
$098,000 – WebSphere

Result: Draw

Developer

$101,000 – JBoss
$099,000 – WebLogic
$100,000 – WebSphere

Result: Draw

Consultant

$101,000 – JBoss
$100,000 – WebLogic
$103,000 – WebSphere

Conclusion: Draw

Highly skilled JBoss professionals cost no more or less than WebLogic and WebSphere professionals.
