Context and Dependency Injection (CDI) has been available for a while now – it’s standard with Java EE 6.  Red Hat has always been a steward of open standards and breaking new grounds by leading the specifications, such as leading the CDI specification.  Thus, JBoss Portal 6.1 is proud to bring CDI to Portal applications!

Introducing JBoss Portal 6.1

On July 25, 2013, Red Hat hosted a webinar to present some exciting new features of JBoss Portal 6.1. The webinar can be replayed online by following this link.

In the webinar, we’ve introduced 4 major new features coming in JBoss Portal 6.1, including:

  • Social Media Integration
  • Mobile Friendly Support
  • CDI Support in standard Portlet and Portlet Filter
  • Navigation API support as part of JBoss Portal’s Public API

In the next couple of weeks, we’ll dive into each of these areas in more detail using real examples built for the webinar, which utilizes all of the new features in a single, coherent, portlet application. The code is available in my GitHub repository if you can’t wait to see it.

Article Series: Migrating Spring Applications to Java EE 6 – Part 4

Bert Ertman  and Paul Bakker of Luminis have written a multi-part article that covers migrating Spring Applications to Java EE 6 technology.  It also consists of sample code a working project.  In the series Paul and Bert discuss the rationale for migrating your applications from Spring to Java EE 6 and show you real examples of upgrading the web UI, replacing the data access layer, migrating AOP to CDI interceptors, migrating JMX, how to deal with JDBC templates, and as an added bonus will demonstrate how to perform integration tests of you Java EE 6 application using Arquillian.
